BRISTOL RIVERSIDE THEATRE DONATES MONEY RAISED AT LATE NITE CATECHISM Sisters of the Holy Cross in Rosemont is Recipient

Bristol Riverside Theatre has donated $4,600 to Sisters of the Holy Child in Rosemont, PA through money raised by gifts from audience members during its presentation of Late Nite Catechism. In this international hit that is part catechism class and part stand-up comedy which played to packed BRT houses on September 9-13, Late Nite Catechism is a hilarious trip down memory lane to the days of meatless Fridays, school uniforms and justice dispensed with a wooden ruler.

Each production of Late Nite Catechism around the country has raised money for local parishes once it was discovered that the Catholic Church didn’t pay into Social Security for nuns when it was first implemented in the 1930s, forcing many nuns to retire with nothing after a lifetime of service. Nonie Newton-Riley, who played Sister in the BRT performances, chose Sisters of the Holy Cross as her recipient to honor her 90-year old mother, nee Anne Oconor, who went to Rosemont College and was educated by the Sisters of the Holy Cross.

“I am so grateful to the BRT audiences for their support of this project. They were really most generous!” enthused Newton-Riley.

BRT’s Mainstage season opens with Bus Stop by William Inge (September 29-October 18) and continues with Mountain: The Journey of Justice Douglas by Douglas Scott (November 3 – November 22, 2015), The Language Archive by Julia Cho (January 26 – February 14, 2016), Rumors by Neil Simon (March 22 – April 17, 2016) and Man of La Mancha starring Robert Newman with music by Mitch Leigh, lyrics by Joe Darion, and book by Dale Wasserman (May 10 –June 5, 2016).

Since 1986, BRT has brought consistently acclaimed professional theatre to Bucks County and maintains a long-term commitment to finding and developing new plays. The theatre is the recipient of 81 Barrymore Award nominations for Excellence in Theatre, given annually by Theatre Philadelphia. In addition to its Mainstage productions, the theatre serves as a cultural hub for the community, with such programs as children’s theatre, community concerts and exhibitions of local visual arts. Currently under the direction of Artistic Director Keith Baker, Founding Director Susan D. Atkinson, and Managing Director Jameson Gilpatrick, BRT begins its 29th season.
